Just A Thought Or Two . . .
We Are Preparing For a New Liturgical Year
Once upon a time, there was a man who decided he wanted to play in the Royal Orchestra because he wanted to perform in front of the king. There was a slight problem. This man couldn’t play a single note. This man had great wealth and power and he was used to getting what he wanted.
After many meetings, the conductor agreed that he could sit in the third row near the back. Even though he couldn’t read the music, he was given a trumpet. When the concert began, he would pretend to play. He’d purse his lips and moved his fingers but in reality, he never made a single sound.
Concert after concert, the man pretended to participate. Things seemed to be going really well until the time came when the conductor announced that he was going to retire. A new conductor was hired and orchestra members were a little anxious about new expectations.
The new conductor wanted to personally audition all the members of the orchestra to see just how well they could play. There were lots of worried members since the conductor made it known that if members didn’t meet his expectations, they would be dismissed from the orchestra.
Audition day finally arrived. Musician after musician played for the new conductor. The man pretended to be sick and asked to leave. A doctor was called and found that the man was well. The conductor then demanded that the man play. Finally, he had to confess that he was a fraud. On that day he had to “face the music.”
Our autumn world has much to teach us. As we watch the multicolored leaves gently float to the waiting earth, we are reminded of the situations in our busy lives that challenge as to graciously “let go.” We must “let go” of behaviors that no longer serve us well. We must be prepared to audition for our heavenly Conductor. Followers of Jesus Christ know that when we claim our God-given talents, there is no need to pretend. Followers of Jesus Christ know that we must be ready when we are called. When we face the music, we hope to present lives filled with faith and harmony.
Please come and pray with us:
